HUNGER RELIEF

For over ten (10) years WAFCDC has provided Hunger Relief to thousands of families in various underserved communities in Memphis through regular weekly and monthly food distributions. Three times a month the We Are Family Food Pantry is in several communities throughout Memphis & Shelby County: Whitehaven, South Memphis, North Memphis and East Memphis. These pantries and located at schools, churches and businesses connected to our community partners. Distribution host outreach events in different locations.   We have food and produce for anyone who may have need for one. All food items produce are received by donations, from the Mid-South Food Bank, local grocery stories, and well as purchased through monetary donations.  Over the past two years we have served 3,000 households which breakdown including adults, children, seniors, and veterans amounts to 18,000 individuals. The process simple, fill out an assessment form, meet the requirements and receive a basket.
The Assessment forms are to identify the needs of the clients and to connect them to those services.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have had a 65% increase of needed food and commodities from our recipients.

Special thanks to our sponsors who support our efforts in to address hunger: Midsouth Food Bank, Save-A-Lot, Kroger’s, and others.

SOCIAL COLLABORATION

Picture
The People Connection is a Social Advocacy Network that assist under-served families and individuals who receive services from our organization. Once monthly, WAFCDC host a social service networking meeting made up of various agencies, businesses, and other non-profit organizations. The purpose of the meetings are to develop relationships, form partnerships in an effort to share resources and better provide services to clients.

THE PEOPLE CONNECTION

Many who live in low-income situations rarely are successful when attempting to request needed services. The communication and understanding is often lost between class systems. Therefore WAFCDC provides direct social advocacy for families and individuals by acting as mediator when interacting with social service agencies, businesses, educational institution, and others. The relationship/partnerships established during the networking collaboration are used to identify the best services based on the demand of need of a client.  In addition,  This is done through referrals and one-on-one appointments.  Many families and individuals have benefited from these connections.
