Adult 2 Adult Mentoring Institute
On May, 19, 2017, We Are Family CDC held its first Adult Mentoring Training, "Adult 2 Adult Mentoring Institute." The purpose of the Adult 2 Adult Mentoring Institute was to provide innovative and comprehensive adult mentor-ship training to professionals and other individuals who are passionate and have overcome extreme life experiences, but lack the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively mentor another adult. There are so many cases in which an adult never received intervention, processing, support and nurturing after traumatizing situations as a child. This could negatively impact their lives as an adult. However, there are a plethora of youth mentoring programs in place to address youth issues that has changed the course of rigorous beginnings. Therefore, the Mentors aim to use what they learn from this training to help improve the quality of life for their men-tees that can result in them having a more promising future. During this training, there were several social service organizations that cam out to train and educate the mentors on social barriers and other issues that negatively impact adults living in hard places. YWCA- Domestic Violence; Salvation Army - Substance Abuse;Child Advocacy Center-Unresolved Childhood Abuse; Heal The Hood-At-risk Youth/Gang Violence; Friends For Life; HIV & AIDS; Assisi Foundation-Understanding Poverty; Perfecting Love Community Church -Spiritual Mentoring; and Transformation Kingdom Church-Asset or Liability, and Veterans Affairs-Mental Illness.
